Some men suspected to be aggrieved youths of the People Democratic Party (PDP), disrupted the rally of the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, the capital of Edo State.
Patience Jonathan was in the state to rally support for her husband's re-election bid. But as she was about to deliver her address, some men climbed the fence and pulled down banners bearing the image of the first lady.
Youths and policeman dressed in branded T-SHIRT, bearing the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria logo swiftly moved into action and accosted the men.
They were whisked away in a police vehicle and d venue provided security for the rally.
According to the Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Chris Nehikhare, he had no doubt that perpetrators were sympathisers of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
"Nehikhare said am sure they were APC people. No PDP youth will be aggrieved to the extent of pulling down posters of the First Lady".
He added that the matter would be investigated.
It should be noted that Patience has been involved in a lot of controversies in recent times. She has been accused of making hate speeches directed at the opposition party.
However, the president's wife has said she is a woman of peace and she hates violence.
